No Reservations…Well, Sort of

Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations, Vol. 8

Netflix blurb:

Celebrity chef and best-selling author Anthony Bourdain hits the road again for his popular Travel Channel show to continue his quest for the world’s most memorable meals. This season takes him to such far-flung spots as Panama, China and Vietnam. It brings him closer home, too, to New York’s Hudson Valley and Maine. There’s also a techniques tutorial with some of the most accomplished chefs on the scene.

Episodes Watched: Ecuador, Panama, Istanbul, Brittany, Prague, Hudson River Valley – NY

I don’t really remember in which order they occur but I watched them in the queue order and – just so you know – I’ve been working my way sequentially through all of the No Reservations Volumes and Episodes. This means that I’ve been with this series for many months and I’ve seen some really weird stuff. These episodes do not include anything like that. In fact, they are mostly travelogue episodes except for Brittany which is not only beautiful but insightful. Prague is an in depth look at the destruction of a food culture by communism and how the greatest beer in the world continues to survive. The Hudson Valley episode has it’s moments but this one is clearly a vehicle for Tony to play around near home, see some old friends and, at the last minute, meet Bill Murray.

Some important questions about colonialism are asked during the Panama episode but the best things about food and culture are in the Brittany episode. You should go watch this one right now.
